1. Open up one of our emails.

GrabOne Get Cultured

David refuses to be addressed as anything other than Boy David and has locked himself in the kitchen where he can enjoy his music without judgement. We really need to get him out of there because, well, that’s where we keep the Chocolate Hob-Nobs. And teabags. Oh and we miss him too. Sort of.

The only problem is, David doesn’t believe that anything is more culturally brilliant than Boy George. We need to lure him out of the kitchen and into the bright lights of Dublin city because, despite all our grumblings, this really is a cool place to live.

We Love Dublin

Just think about it, we have all the vibrancy of a big city combined with the intimacy of a small town. The best of both worlds. And ever since the big ‘R’ hit, unique and creative events have been popping up all over town.
So instead of heading home after work and watching Daenerys cry about her dragons, we’re going to take advantage of the longer and brighter days to see what’s out there. We’ve set up an office Culture Club (yep, we’re those type of people) and we hope to see and do something a little bit different each week.

This week we’re heading to the Abbey Theatre to see Drum Belly – an actual play in an actual theatre; we won’t know ourselves.

What is it with the Irish refusing to accept their fair skin fate? Instead of factor 30 we decide on factor 8 for fear of the question, ‘You were away weren’t you?’ and the dreaded statement, ‘You’re still as white as when you left.’ Worse still, some Irish have an ‘ah sure it’ll be grand’ attitude’ and feel no need to use any cream at all (we’re looking at you men ) and then spend the rest of the holiday miserable, crying, peeling and indoors.

Don’t get me wrong, you don’t do it on purpose. You had plans and they were good. They involved all kinds of culture and visits to local attractions. Trouble is a great night got in the way. Today your head is sore and falling asleep on your sun lounger sounds so much better. Zzzzz

Find the Nearest Irish Bar

and then order Guiness, speak to other Irish people, watch that really important match and shout at the TV screen together. Because it’s just not like this in Ireland.

We like to get our money’s worth of weather. The further away we go the more we expect. Raining and windy in Italy? The absolute cheek of the weather Gods! You’re not happy and what’s more you’ll let everybody know about it. While a heatwave will have you hiding for the shady hills and setting up camp in the coolest buildings.
